For families and couples seeking tranquility by the water, fishing in Marysville’s serene lakes and rivers is a perfect choice. The Marysville Trout and Salmon Ponds offer a family-friendly setting where children can learn the art of fishing, and couples can enjoy a peaceful day by the water. The calming ripple of the rivers  and the thrill of catching a fish make it an ideal activity for all ages.

The closest fishing besides throwing in your line in the Streavensons river right outside your cabin door, tent or caravan is the Marysville Trout and Salmon Ponds on 2118 Maroondah Highway in Buxton only 10 minutes drive down the road offering you the opportunity to fish or buy directly from the farm and take it back to your cabin or use one of our many public bbq’s and make everyone else jealous of your catch for the day!  https://buxtontrout.com.au/

 

  1. Lake Mountain Alpine Resort:

A destination that transforms with the seasons, Lake Mountain Alpine Resort caters to both families and couples. In winter, families can engage in snow play, tobogganing, and building snowmen, while couples enjoy breathtaking views and cozy lodge stays. And it’s so close! 23 minutes by car, approximately 75-90 minutes with your mountain bike or you could put a whole day aside and hike there…. and we mean the whole day as it is 24.5km! The good thing to note is heading back to Marysville it is all downhill on the return!

  1. Steavenson Falls 

No visit to Marysville is complete without witnessing the majesty of Steavenson Falls. It is only just over 4 km away so you can choose whatever way you want to get there. Many hike through town and grab some food and drink along the way so they can stay a little longer at the falls to take it all in. Many families that have stayed with us have made the leisurely walk to the falls, enjoying the lush greenery and opportunity to take many memorable photos. For couples, the falls are beautiful so an Insta or Facebook moment with the waterfall as a romantic backdrop, especially during the evening when the cascading water is beautifully illuminated.

Just be aware if it is hot and you want to cool off, that you can not swim as it is part of the town’s water supply so please respect this request for yours and ours drinking!

  1. Mountain Bike Trails:

For adventurous families and couples seeking an adrenaline rush, Marysville’s mountain bike trails are a must. The region boasts a variety of trails catering to different skill levels, offering a thrilling experience for families and an exciting adventure for couples looking for a bit of challenge and a lot of fun.

There are 9 trails in the surrounding area that are well known and we encourage you and your friends to take your bike out and try a few. Lenny’s Loop is the easiest and is a short 2km. There is also an intermediate ride for those with more experience named the Cascade Trail which is just over 29 km in length, both are in MARYSVILLE. For families seeking an off-road adventure or couples yearning for excitement, 4-wheel driving through the rugged terrains around Marysville is a thrilling option. Explore lesser-known corners of the region, accessing viewpoints and hidden gems that promise unforgettable experiences.

The Toolangi 4wd Trail just south of Marysville is one of the closest to Melbourne, its situated in the Black Range State Forest. It is accessible via dirt tracks and has some stunning cascades, walks, picnic areas and suspension bridges in the Murrindini Scenic Reserve.
